Guest Story by Trevor Cooper

This is a story by Trevor Cooper, age 9 called Pumpkin’s Deep Sea Adventure

Far from my cozy fish tank, in the deep tropical waters, I was on a mission to find the hidden treasure. My friend, a catfish named Lay, had told me that I could find it in a sunken pirate ship.

My golden fins were the only thing giving light around me. I aimed my fins upward so I could see where I was going. I kept on swimming down in the sea.  I saw a coral reef but didn’t touch it because fire corals might sting me. I moved around it, not getting too close.

I swam a little further and then came to a sudden stop. There was an enormous great white shark to one side of the fire corals. I hid behind a rock covered with brown algae and sea weed, so the shark wouldn’t come after me.  He swam by me and turned upwards towards the surface of the water. I was scared when the great white shark was near me and relieved after he left the area.

I swam down even deeper to where the red algae grows on the bottom of the ocean.  Suddenly I saw an old wooden ship. I was so excited.

“I wonder what it’s in the ship,” I thought to myself.

The ship swayed back and forth in the slowly moving waves. I could hear creaking sounds from the whine of the wood.  I swam into the ship through openings in the side and saw old rusty cannons, anchors, buckets and sails that were rotting in the water.  I moved through the water until I was under the ship’s deck and saw a huge treasure chest overflowing with coins, rubies and other gems.  I was so thrilled I could pop.

I swam up to the top as fast as I could.  A little boy was at the edge of the beach, scooping up water and then pouring it back into the ocean. He looked like a nice boy. The next bucket scooped me up.  He was astonished to see a goldfish in his bucket.

“Hi little boy!  Can you help me,” I said to him. “I found an old sunken ship in the deep sea full of treasure and I need your help to get it.”

The boy called his dad over and his dad then telephoned a scuba diving team to come and assist.  They arrived really fast.  Then I told them where the treasure was.  They were very surprised to hear a fish talking.

The boy put me back in the waster and the scuba divers followed me.  I showed them where the sunken treasure was and they were astonished at the coins and gems.

They brought a strong net with them to scoop up the treasure.  They got all of it and swam with it up to the surface.  When I got to the top of the water I felt proud.  The scuba drivers took the treasure to a special place to clean the gems and coins.

I received lots of treats and goodies for my help.

The scuba divers carried me back to my own fish tank and I told the other fish about my experience.  They were all excited about my find and I was happy that I discovered the treasure.

I swam around the tank, remembering the things I did today.  After a while I went to sleep in the corner of the fish tank and dreamt about my adventure.
